Castlerigg Stone Circle is on the level top of a low hill. There are 38 stones in a circle approximately 30 metres in diameter. Within the ring is a rectangle of a further 10 standing stones. Athgreany Stone Circle (Pipers Stones), look carefully for the sheep behind the bush.

Sheep at the outlier located about 50 meters from the stone circle. The story goes that a group dancing to a piper on the sabbath were turned into stones, the outlier being the piper.

Carrowmore near Sligo - once you stand in the middle of the fields surrounding the tombs on a moderately clear day you will be fascinated. The massive plateau of Belbulben cuts off the view to the North. In the West Queen Maebh's Grave on the top of Knocknarea aligns with several Carrowmore tombs.

The Stones of Stenness were originally a ring of twelve but now only four remain standing. It is believed that the ring was erected sometime during the 3rd millennium BC. While bicycling across the island of Orkney, I twice passed by the Stones of Stenness early in the morning and on both occasions noticed a group of sheep sitting in the middle of the circle. There was no fence keeping the sheep within the circle, they only moved from the circle when humans entered, and they soon returned to the center when the humans departed.

Even the celebrated summer solstice sunrise significance is in doubt, Stonehenge may actually have been built to mark the winter solstice sunset. The winter solstice would have been of much greater importance to the builders of Stonehenge, early farming communities who depended on the return of longer and warmer days to grow their crops.
